A living sacrifice

I was reading Romans 12 and I know that it is one of the scriptures I have read many times in my life but this time it spoke to me on another level about the living sacrifice. Romans 12 verse 1 says;

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship”.

This verse tells us that the proper way of worshipping God is through giving our bodies as a living sacrifices. The question is, how can we do that? Let’s go deeper and discuss it together.

As followers of  Christ, our lives should be all about God. Our thoughts need to always and all the time be oriented to God. In other words, we should live for Christ! This is done by living the way He wants us to live and not how we think we should live. We need to approach Him and ask Him to give us discernment of His will and purpose in our lives.

The only way we can know His will and purpose in our life is by spending time with God. We can hear all the teachings and attend every Sunday service at church but that will not help us to renew our minds as Romans 12 verse 2 says. The same verse tells us to not conform to the pattern of this world but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Guess what the next line says in the next verse; it says, “then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, His good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 12:2).

The “then” is often used to connect two situations and in the above verse it connects the part Paul tells the Romans to not conform to the pattern of this world but to be transformed by the renewing of their minds and then, only then, they will be able to test and approve what God’s will is in their life.

In His presence, we will hear things that no one else is able to hear like when Elijah was hearing a rainstorm coming when no one else could because he was spending time on the top of a mountain, praying for rain (1 Kings 18:41-42). Let’s go up on a mountain and pray, pray continuously (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18), let’s be devoted to prayer, and let it be a huge part of our life (Colossians 4:2). Knowing His will helps us to renew our minds and live according to His word.

Spending time with God is the only thing that will always come back in all the teachings. You cannot know a person if you don’t spend time with that person. Let’s stop living as this world tells us to and take ourselves to the altar, giving ourselves to God as sacrifices. I think the least we can do to worship the one who gave His life for us is to live for Him. Let us give Him our lives, and our bodies as a gift for the new life He offered us, for making us new creations in Him. Jesus is good you all, I can’t say it enough! Give Him a chance to renew your mind, your life, and your thoughts by spending time with Him. I assure you that you will NEVER be disappointed. Let your life be a sacrifice of God’s will and purpose. Live your life for God.
