Today, I was reading the book of Matthew from chapters 1 to 3. They talk about the story of Mary, how she became pregnant with Jesus while she was about to marry her fiancé Joseph, how the Lord reassured Joseph that Mary’s pregnancy is from the Holy Ghost and what they went through when Mary was pregnant and right after Jesus was born.
When I was reading that, I started thinking about Joseph. Joseph and Mary were having a good relationship for sure but Mary got pregnant. I assume that Joseph was angry since the bible says that Joseph didn’t want to expose Mary to public disgrace but had in mind to divorce her quietly (Matthew 1:19).
As a human, I think I would do the same thing. I could not understand how the Holy Ghost would impregnate Mary and would just see it as a lie. To fulfill His word and bring His Son to the world and in a family setting, God sent an angel to reassure Joseph and that helped him to believe in Mary and take her home as his wife (Matthew 1:20-21).
Reading the following verses about the birth of Jesus and how Herod wanted to kill Jesus (Matthew 2) made me realize how Joseph and Mary had to surrender to God and believe blindly in Him because even though they loved Jesus, they did not ask for anything but God chose them to bring His Son to Earth.
Sometimes we don’t like the situations we are in since they are difficult and we did not ask for them in our life. However, we should ask the Holy Spirit to help us surrender to God and give us the willingness to do what God tells us to do. The Bible tells us in Romans 8: 12-14 that the Holy Spirit empowers us to do what God calls us to. And Corinthians 10:13 tells us that God will not allow temptations to be more than we can stand and that He will show us a way out when tempted so that we can endure.
I am pretty positive, God knew that Mary and Joseph were able to stand everything they went through not based on their strengths but based on the power of the Holy Spirit and His day-to-day directives of how to get out of the temptations. Let us lean completely on God, surrender ourselves to Him, and let go of everything we have so that our life may become more peaceful even in the midst of the worst temptations, reminding ourselves that God will never give us more than we can handle and that we have the power of the Holy Spirit on our side. Look at the result of Joseph and Mary’s firmness, their Son brought so many back to life, He is a Savior of the whole world. So let us stand firm, as the result of our struggles could heal and save many since we always get on the other side with testimonies of what God did for us.
