I have been thinking about faith and trying to see and understand its impact to give it the meaning it deserves or see it from a different angle. I was raised by a Christian and have been part of a church since I was little. Because of that, faith has been a huge part of my life or at least I heard the word “faith” many times throughout my childhood. When someone wanted to experience healing either emotionally or physically, they would tell that person to pray and have faith. When someone wanted a promotion at work, getting pregnant, deliverance from addiction, or God’s protection of their loved ones they would tell them to pray and have faith. I know many people pray for a daily meal and have faith as they do not have enough money to buy food. People have been depending and still depend on God for everything, and I mean everything (food, clothes, school fees, and the list goes on). This would be applicable for both someone praying for someone else or when the person would actually be praying for himself/herself.
Today, I was talking to a dear friend of mine about faith and she sent me a message saying that there are two different types of faith. Right on the day I was thinking about faith and writing this devotional! Isn’t that amazing? I took it as a miracle from God. The two types are preventive faith and resurrection faith. The difference between those two is that with the preventive faith, one is being proactive in prayer, praying for something to prevent it to happen such as when asking God for protection which we often do for ourselves and our families. Martha had that faith when she said that her brother Lazard would not have died if Jesus was there (John 11:21) while with the resurrection faith, Martha believed that God would do whatever Jesus would ask Him to do, even though Lazarus was already dead (John 11:22).
I believe that every faith unlocks a miracle. I believe that every answered prayer is a miracle. It may be small but I choose to believe that my life is full of little and big miracles which means that faith is connected to miracles. When we pray about something and believe that God will answer us, even if the timing is not ours, the answer will be our miracle. The Bible is full of stories of people who had faith in God and received a miracle. Sarah had a baby way after menopause because of her faith in God (Genesis 17 & 18); Abraham moved to an unknown place because of his faith (Genesis 12: 1-4); Noah built the ark when there was no visible sign of flood (Genesis 7); Aaron went to Pharaoh and threw his stick on the floor believing that it will turn into a snake and it did (Exodus 7); it was with faith that Moses stretched out his hand and a road was paved in the middle of the red sea (Exodus 14: 19-31); etc. The Bible is full of mind-blowing stories of men and women who had faith in God and saw huge miracles. All those people had two things in common; they had faith and they were ready to receive their miracles. I have realized many times in my life that when I am ready to receive something from God, I hear from Him. Even when He is telling me to wait I hear it because I was waiting on Him.
Heading to the Easter weekend when we are reminded of Jesus’s death and resurrection, let’s ask God to give us the resurrection faith. Look back to what you have been praying about, even those things that look like they are already dead, and be reminded that He is a God who brings dead things back to life. Have you been praying for physical healing for years? for the salvation of a loved one? for the restoration of your marriage? or for the deliverance from an addiction? I am happy to tell you that it is not too late. Our God is a God who turns sorrows into lasting joy, He resurrects anything, He commands and things happen, He calls out dead things into life, He is a miracle-working God!
I invite you today to believe again in God because He is not done yet. Look back to what He has done for you and know that He can do exceedingly above what you may think and ask as His thoughts are higher than your thoughts and His ways are higher than yours (Isaiah 55: 8-9). What wouldn’t He do? Nothing! Because nothing is impossible to Him (Luke 1:37). You have been held in His hands all the days of your life whether you felt it or not. He is not about to be defeated now and He will never do.
Prayer: Father God, thank you for being a Father and a friend to me, thank you for your mercy. Thank you for being a miracle-working God. Increase my faith in you and help me to get myself ready to receive my miracle even though things look like they are already dead. I believe that nothing is impossible for you. Help me to depend on you in everything in this life. Help me to see all the miracles you graciously send to me every day. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
