We read in Genesis 1:28 that God has given man the power to rule over the earth and all which is in it:
God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth. »
The first thing he did was then to give each animal a name. Let’s look at how that came to happen:
Genesis 2:18: Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”19 Now, out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him.
As the man gave a name to the animals, he found a help fit for each one. Let’s imagine the scene. God brought the animals to Adam so that he could give them a name. He names the rooster, the horse, the lion, the wolf, … And when the rooster arrives in female version, he realizes that she resembles the rooster and names her “the chicken”. When the horse comes in female version, he calls her “the mare”. When he finds the lion in female version, he calls her “lioness”. When he has finished naming all the animals, he realizes that he had found a helper fit for each one unless for himself. It was a lack, a recognized need, but nothing more. He does not complain, he does not pray, he does nothing more than observe.
But God was there, God saw, God knew, before Adam even realized it. He only waited for Adam to realize his need. He waited for Adam to have a place for Eve in his heart.
Genesis 2:21 Then the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on the man, and he fell asleep. He took one of his ribs and closed the flesh in its place. 22 The LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken from the man and brought her to the man.
God sees our needs and meets them exactly. He sees in our hearts, these longings we have, these unexpressed needs, God knows them and already has an answer. Adam didn’t know he was uncomplete before he named the animals. And even when he realized it after naming the animals, he didn’t have to voice his need. However, when he sees the woman, his expression shows that his heart was waiting for her:
23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. We will call her woman because she was taken from man. »
These things happened before the fall, when there was still perfect fellowship between God and the man he had created. So when Adam finds no help fit for him, that was enough for the plan God had when he said in Genesis 2:18: It is not good that the man should be alone. That was all God wanted when he brought to the man the animals to see what he would call them.
Brothers and sisters, God sees in our hearts, he knows our needs, he does not ignore our aspirations. We don’t have to worry because he knows what is good for us and he provides for it in his time. On top of that, when we are in communion with God, there is no room for confusion or questioning. God communicates his thoughts to a heart already ready to receive it. Thanks to the communion between God and Adam, the thought of God (v.18) aroused in Adam the secret need for a help like him.
And when God communicates his thoughts to us, things become so easy. It becomes like when the pieces of a puzzle fit together. It’s so easy and we don’t have to force anything. There’s no resistance. When we accept the thought, the project of God, he puts things in place himself like he did for Adam. Our God just needs a heart that accepts his thought, his plan for us, and lets him put things in place. How easy for us!! We will have to marvel as Adam did, at God’s answer to our prayers, whether expressed or not, saying, O God, you are extraordinary. This is exactly what I needed. I didn’t even know exactly, I just had a vague idea, but you, Lord, you knew. Alleluia!! Let’s long and pray for such a communion with God that we have no room for worry, anxiety or anything like that because we know that God knows, that he is in control and will meet all our needs.
Prayer : Father God, I want to have with you such a communion that my heart is always open and embrace your thoughts and your plans for my life. Amen.
