The Key to success (2)

For the past few days, I have been learning on the importance of reading the word of God. We all know this is crucial to the life of the Christian, because the word of God contains the truth we need to live a fulfilling Christian life.

Who is God? What does he want from me? What does he like? What does not he like ? What does he think of that? How does he speak? In short, it is in the Bible that God reveals himself to us and speaks to us.

In my last post which I titled “The Key to Success (1)”, I came back to Joshua 1:8 which says:

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Joshua 1:8.

Now, speaking of the man whose “delight is in the law of the Lord” and who meditates on it “day and night”, Psalms 1 says in the Amplified Bible:

“he will be like a tree firmly planted [and fed] by streams of water, Which yields its fruits in its season; Its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers [and comes to maturity]”.

But what is success?

The Larousse dictionary defines success as a “happy result obtained in a company, a job, a sporting event, etc.” It gives “victory” as a synonym of success.

The success mentioned in Joshua 1:8 and Psalms 1: 1-3 is much broader than the Larousse dictionary definition. For me, success is living your life in agreement with God. True success begins within, with our relationship with God and the transformation He brings to us. It is this transformation that makes us the person God wants us to be and enables us to do his will. Indeed, what we become through our relationship with God is reflected in what we do and what we say, in our actions, our words, our attitudes and even our thoughts. It is the measure of our relationship with God that will give the measure of our inner transformation that will eventually manifest itself on the outside. When the cup is full, it overflows. This is true no matter what fills the cup. If it is filled with the word of God, it is the divine life that will overflow and influence everything in our life: our relationships, our words, our actions, our attitudes, our work, our productivity, … Psalms 1 and Joshua 1:8 are all about that.

There is tremendous transforming power in the word of God. Paul talks about it in his epistle to the Romans saying:

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes …” Romans 1:16

And we read in Hebrews 4:12 :

“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart”.

So, let’s invest in our relationship with God, let’s develop our intimacy with him and he will fill us until the cup overflows.

Prayer: “Lord, I want more of you in my life. Help me to love your word, so that I can know you more and more and become the person you want me to be. Amen.
