Welcome to the most magical time of the year, where we celebrate the incredible joy and gift that has touched the entire world and where our redemption started – the birth of Jesus Christ, our beloved Lord and Savior.
In this special season, many of us find ourselves reflecting on the past year, evaluating the goals we set and eagerly planning for the upcoming one. As I looked back on 2023, I was filled with gratitude for achieving some of my biggest goals I had set for this year. I then started thinking about year 2024 but little did I know that God had some fascinating revelations in store for me for the year 2024.
The first revelation was a profound goal – to live a supernatural life in Jesus. How amazing does that sound? The idea excited me, but it didn’t end there. The Holy Spirit nudged me with another goal for the upcoming year: joy! I found myself questioning if joy and a supernatural life could coexist on the same list. The answer became clear when the Holy Spirit revealed that joy is the very essence of a supernatural life.
Consider this: the reason we are able to live a supernatural life is because Jesus came on Earth through birth; His arrival brought unimaginable joy to all who heard the good news (see Luke 2). Through His sacrifice and resurrection, He bestowed upon us the joy of eternal life (see Luke 24). This is really the only reason we can and are able to live a fulfilling and supernatural life, as Jesus made it possible for us.
So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.
A supernatural life, to me, is a life filled with God’s miracles. It’s acknowledging that God is the source of all power, and without Him, I am powerless. It’s being filled with His Holy Spirit and accomplishing greater works. Greater work – exploits that Jesus expects from us, which we can only do when we yield to the Holy Spirit who dwells within us. Jesus knew His disciples had to have the Baptism in the Holy Spirit to do the mighty works God planned for them. That hasn’t changed. Knowing Jesus as our Savior and being filled with the Spirit are still the first steps toward doing the impossible. Last but not least, living a supernatural life is becoming a faith giant, accomplishing great things by believing in God. It’s about having faith as the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11).
To achieve this, I must spend endless time studying the Word of God. Laziness about His Word is not an option, for our future is intricately tied to the amount of His Word in our hearts. That’s why God said, “My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life”(Proverbs 4: 20-23). As I embark on this journey, I realize that joy is an indispensable companion. Without joy, I cannot fully appreciate the blessings God showers upon me each day.
Dear brothers and sisters, let’s embrace contagious joy, blessing our surroundings and showcasing how fabulous our God is. Together, let’s live supernatural lives, allowing others to witness the grandiosity and magnificence of our God. Yes, there will be moments of temptation, but through God’s goodness and faithfulness, we will triumph and maintain our joy through all the seasons of life.
Prayer: Father God, thank you for the greatest joy bestowed upon humanity through the birth of Jesus Christ. Guide us to navigate all seasons of life with contagious joy and to live the supernatural life you have intended for us. Reveal us who you are and who we are to you as this will surely bring tremendous joy in our hearts. Reveal yourself to us as the Messiah, the one who delivers us from bondage and restores us, the anointed one. Help us live the life you died for – a supernatural life. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
