Scripture Focus: Matthew 7;8
Jesus reminds us that hearing His words is not enough—we are called to live them. Those who do the will of the Father are the ones who truly belong to Him. When we put His teachings into practice, our lives are built on solid rock. Storms will come and temptations will arise, but they will not destroy us, because our foundation is obedience rooted in trust—not convenience or comfort (Matthew 7).
This call to obedience is grounded in who Jesus is. The crowds were amazed because He taught with authority—an authority unlike anything they had ever encountered. His words carried weight because they were true, and that same authority was revealed when He spoke to the winds and the waves and they obeyed Him. In awe, the disciples asked, “What kind of man is this?” (Matthew 8:27). The answer is clear: He is Lord over all creation.
Because Jesus has authority over all things, obedience to Him is not blind—it is secure. When we build our lives on His words, we are trusting the One who commands both truth and power. This is why a life built on Him can withstand storms. The foundation holds because the One who laid it is unshakable.
Matthew 8 shows us what this kind of trust looks like in action. The centurion believed that Jesus could heal with a word alone. He did not need proof or proximity—he trusted Christ’s authority fully. Jesus marveled at his faith and said, “Let it be done just as you believed it would,” and healing came instantly (Matthew 8:10, 13). Faith that rests in who Jesus is releases the power of His word.
This invites us to reflect honestly. Are we merely hearing Jesus’ words, or are we trusting and living them out? A life built on obedience and faith in Christ’s authority will stand firm. Faith—simple, confident faith—still moves the heart of God, and obedience remains the sure foundation of a life anchored in Him.
Prayer
Lord, help me not only to hear Your Word, but to live it. Teach me to trust Your authority fully and to build my life on obedience to You. When storms come, remind me that You are my foundation and that nothing built on You will be shaken. Amen.
