Daily Reflection: Examining the Fruit of Our Faith

Scripture Focus: Matthew 21;22

In Matthew 21, Jesus fulfills what was written about Him as He enters Jerusalem, yet the disciples and the crowd struggle to fully understand what God is doing (Matthew 21:1–11). Though they witness prophecy unfolding before their eyes, confusion still surrounds Jesus’ mission. This reminds us that even when God is clearly at work, our hearts can still wrestle with doubt and misunderstanding. Their confusion reveals a human heart that longs for certainty while God invites us into deeper trust.

Jesus then speaks powerful words about faith and prayer: “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer”(Matthew 21:22). But He does not mean shallow or selfish prayers. True prayer flows from trust and obedience. Immediately after, Jesus challenges us to look at the fruit of our lives: “Are you producing the kingdom’s fruit?”(Matthew 21:43). Faith is not only about what we say we believe, but about the visible fruit our lives produce—love, obedience, humility, and devotion to God.

In Matthew 22, Jesus asks difficult questions that reveal the condition of our hearts. “Are you wearing wedding clothes?”(Matthew 22:12). This question points to whether we are truly prepared and transformed, or merely present without repentance. He also asks, “Are you still amazed at His teachings?” (Matthew 22:33). Have we allowed familiarity with God’s Word to dull our wonder, or do we still listen with reverence and hunger?

Finally, Jesus summarizes everything with the greatest commandment: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37). Our faith is not meant to be partial or routine—it is meant to be wholehearted. Loving God fully reshapes how we pray, how we live, and how we bear fruit for His kingdom.

Today, these passages invite us to examine ourselves honestly. Are we producing fruit that reflects God’s kingdom? Are we still amazed by His Word? Are we clothed in humility and obedience? And do we truly love Him with all that we are?

Prayer:

Lord Jesus,
Search my heart today and help me see where my faith needs to grow. Teach me to pray with true belief and to live in a way that produces fruit for Your kingdom. Clothe me with humility and obedience, and renew my wonder for Your Word. Help me to love You with all my heart, soul, and mind.
Amen.
