Daily Reflection: “Speak, Lord, for Your Servant Is Listening”

Scripture Focus: 1 Samuel 1;2 & 3

The story of Samuel begins with a mother’s pain and ends with a prophet’s calling. Hannah poured out her soul to the Lord in deep sorrow and prayer (1 Samuel 1:15). Her honesty before God changed everything—her face was no longer downcast (1 Samuel 1:18). This reminds us that when we bring our burdens to God sincerely, He replaces heaviness with peace.

God answered Hannah’s prayer and raised Samuel for His purpose. Even in a time when “the word of the Lord was rare”(1 Samuel 3:1), God was still speaking. Samuel learned to remain close to the presence of God and to listen. Though he did not recognize God’s voice at first, the Lord patiently called him again and again.

Samuel’s response teaches us the posture of a faithful servant:
“Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.” (1 Samuel 3:10)

This reflection challenges us to examine our own hearts:

  • Are we creating space to hear God’s voice?
  • Are we willing to obey once He speaks?
  • Are we being disciplined and faithful in what He has entrusted to us?

God raised Samuel as a faithful priest and prophet because his heart was aligned with God’s will. When we draw near to God in prayer, remain teachable, and walk in obedience, He can use our lives powerfully—just as He did with Samuel.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for calling us into Your presence. Teach us to pray with honest hearts like Hannah and to listen like Samuel. Quiet every distraction in our lives so we may hear Your voice clearly. Help us to walk in obedience and faithfulness to Your will. Speak, Lord, for Your servants are listening. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
