Daily Reflection: Equipped for God’s Purpose

Scripture Focus: Luke 9

In Luke 9, we see an important truth about how God works when He calls us. The Scripture says, “When Jesus had called the Twelve together, He gave them power and authority… and He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick” (Luke 9:1–2). Before sending the disciples on their mission, Jesus first equipped them. This reminds us that when God calls us to something, He also provides what we need to accomplish it. The authority and strength come from Him, not from ourselves.

Later in the chapter, during the transfiguration, Moses and Elijah appear and speak with Jesus. The Gospel tells us that “they spoke about His departure, which He was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem” (Luke 9:31). Even in this moment of glory, the focus was on the mission Jesus came to complete. His journey toward Jerusalem—and ultimately the cross—was intentional and part of God’s greater plan.

As Jesus continued His journey, a Samaritan village refused to welcome Him. “But the people there did not welcome Him, because He was heading for Jerusalem” (Luke 9:53). Their rejection did not stop Jesus or change His direction. He remained focused on the purpose set before Him.

This passage reminds us that when God calls us, He equips us, guides us, and leads us toward His purpose. And even when we face rejection or closed doors, it does not mean that God’s plan has failed. Sometimes those moments simply keep us moving forward on the path He has prepared.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the calling You place on our lives. Help us trust that when You send us, You also equip us. Give us faith to follow Your direction and the perseverance to stay focused on Your purpose, even when we face rejection or challenges. Amen. 🙏
