Scripture Focus: Luke 21
In Luke 21:3–4, Jesus highlights the heart behind giving: “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all the others.” This leads us to a personal and searching question: are we giving Jesus our leftovers, or are we giving from our heart? The widow gave not out of abundance, but out of surrender. God is not looking at the quantity—weighed by human standards—but at the posture of our hearts. True devotion is costly, intentional, and deeply sincere.
Jesus then warns in Luke 21:8, “Watch out that you are not deceived.” In a world filled with many voices, distractions, and confusion, discernment becomes essential. We are called to stay anchored in Him, to know His voice so clearly that we are not led astray.
In Luke 21:13, He says, “And so you will bear testimony to me.” Even in difficulty, opposition, or uncertainty, our lives are meant to testify of Him. And we are not left alone in this. In Luke 21:14–15, Jesus promises, “Make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.” What a powerful assurance—God Himself equips us with wisdom and the right words at the right time.
Then comes a comforting promise in Luke 21:18: “But not a hair of your head will perish.” Even in the midst of trials, God’s protection and sovereignty remain. Nothing escapes His care.
In Luke 21:33, Jesus reminds us, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” Everything around us may change, fade, or disappear—but His Word remains eternal and unshaken. He is a faithful God, and He will bring every one of His promises to life.
Finally, in Luke 21:36, we are given a clear instruction: “Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.” This is one of our ultimate goals—to stand before Him. A life of watchfulness and prayer keeps us ready, grounded, and aligned with Him.
God is calling us to live with sincere hearts, spiritual discernment, and constant readiness. To give Him our all, to remain anchored in His truth, and to live in such a way that we will be able to stand before Him.
Prayer
Lord, teach me to give You not what is left, but what is true and from my heart. Help me to stay alert and not be deceived, to recognize Your voice above all others. Thank You for Your promises, for Your wisdom, and for Your protection. Strengthen me to live a life that testifies of You. Keep me watchful and prayerful, so that one day I may stand before You with confidence. Amen.
