Scripture Focus: Luke 24
“Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; He has risen!” (Luke 24:5–6).
This question doesn’t just belong to that moment—it speaks directly to us. How often do we search for life, peace, or fulfillment in places that cannot give it? Jesus is not found among what is empty or lifeless. He is alive—and true life is found in Him alone.
When the women heard this, “they remembered His words” (Luke 24:8). In moments of confusion, remembering what God has already spoken changes everything. Yet even when they shared the truth, it seemed like nonsense to others (Luke 24:11). And for some, disappointment still lingered: “But we had hoped…” (Luke 24:21).
Isn’t that familiar? We can know God’s promises, yet still wrestle when things don’t unfold the way we expected. But what feels like loss or delay is often God fulfilling His plan in a way we do not yet understand.
As the disciples walked, confused and discouraged, Jesus was with them—yet they did not recognize Him. It wasn’t until later that “their eyes were opened and they recognized Him” (Luke 24:31). This reminds us that Jesus can be present even when we don’t perceive Him. He is near in the waiting, in the questions, and even in the silence.
Then “He opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures” (Luke 24:45). True understanding comes from Him. It is not just about hearing the Word, but about Him revealing it to our hearts.
Jesus also told them, “Stay… until you have been clothed with power from on high” (Luke 24:49). There is a season where we are called to wait—not passively, but expectantly. Waiting is not a delay of purpose; it is preparation for it.
And in the end, what began with confusion and sorrow turned into worship and joy (Luke 24:51–52). Encountering the risen Jesus changes everything.
Jesus is alive, and when we truly encounter Him, confusion turns into clarity, disappointment into understanding, and waiting into preparation. Our role is to remember His Word, trust His presence even when we don’t see Him, and remain faithful until He reveals, strengthens, and fills us—leading us into a life of worship and joy.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You that You are alive. Help me to stop searching for life in places that cannot satisfy and to find everything in You. Teach me to remember Your Word, especially when I feel confused or discouraged. Open my eyes to recognize You and my mind to understand Your truth. Give me grace to wait on You with faith, knowing You are preparing me. Let my life respond with worship and joy because You are risen. Amen.
