Daily Reflection: From Flesh to Spirit

Scripture Focus: John 3

In John 3:5–6, Jesus reveals that life with God begins with a new birth—not of the flesh, but of the Spirit. This is not about improving ourselves outwardly, but about being transformed from within. There is a life that only God can give, a life that changes our very nature.

This new life is rooted in something deeper—God’s love.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16).

Everything begins here. We are not striving to earn life; we are invited to receive it. His love came first. His love made a way.

But this love also calls for a response.

In John 3:19, we are reminded that light has come into the world, yet people sometimes choose darkness. This shows us that believing is not just a confession—it is a decision. A decision to come into the light, to live in truth, and to allow God to transform every part of our lives.

And when we truly receive this love and choose the light, something shifts within us.

Our focus changes. Our desires change. Our posture changes.

We begin to live out the words of John 3:29–30:
“That joy is mine, and it is now complete. He must become greater; I must become less.”

This is the natural response of a heart that has encountered Jesus. It is no longer about lifting ourselves up, but about surrendering fully so that He may take His rightful place. And in that surrender, we don’t lose—we find true joy. A joy that is complete, because it is rooted in Him.

And as we make room for Him, He fills us.

“For God gives the Spirit without limit.” (John 3:34).
There is no lack in Him. No measure. No holding back. As we decrease, He increases within us—filling us with His Spirit, His presence, and His life.

This is the invitation of John 3:36: to believe in the Son and receive eternal life—not just someday, but beginning now. A life marked by transformation, surrender, and fullness in Him.

God’s love invites us into a new life through the Spirit. As we choose the light and truly believe, we are called to surrender—allowing Jesus to increase and ourselves to decrease. In that place, we find true joy and are filled with His Spirit without limit.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for loving me and giving me new life through You. Help me to walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh. Teach me to choose the light daily and to truly live out what I believe. I surrender my life to You—be greater in me, and let me become less. Fill me with Your Spirit without limit, and let my joy be found in You alone. Amen.
