Daily Reflection: Remain in Me

Scripture Focus: John 15

In Gospel of John 15, Jesus Christ gives us a clear picture of our relationship with Him: He is the vine, and we are the branches. Everything begins with this connection.

In John 15:2, we see that every branch that does not bear fruit is cut off, and every branch that does bear fruit is pruned so that it will be even more fruitful. This shows us that God is always working with purpose. Even though it feels like pruning, He is shaping our lives so that we can bear more fruit. Even when it is uncomfortable, it is not without meaning—it is drawing us into a deeper, more fruitful connection with Him.

That is why Jesus calls us in John 15:4 to remain in Him. This is the center of everything. Because in John 15:5, He says, “Apart from me you can do nothing.” Without Him, we cannot produce anything lasting. Our strength, our efforts, and our abilities are not enough on their own. A fruitful life only comes from staying connected to Him.

When we truly remain in Him, our lives begin to change. John 15:7–8 shows that as we stay connected to Jesus and His words remain in us, we begin to bear much fruit, and through that, God is glorified. Fruit is not something we force—it is the natural result of staying connected to the vine.

But remaining in Jesus is not just about producing fruit—it is about living in His love. In John 15:9, Jesus says, “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.” This means that the place we are called to remain is not pressure or performance, but love.

And how do we remain in His love? By being obedient. Obedience is not separate from remaining—it is part of it. It is how we stay connected to Him daily. It is our response to His love. As we choose to follow His commands, we are choosing to stay close to Him.

This is why Jesus can say in John 15:14, “You are my friends if you do what I command.” Obedience is not about losing relationship—it is actually what deepens it. It is how we walk closely with Him, not as distant followers, but as friends.

And in John 15:16, we are reminded of something powerful: we did not choose Him, but He chose us and appointed us to go and bear fruit—fruit that will last. This means our lives have purpose, and that purpose is fulfilled as we remain in Him.

So everything comes back to this one truth: remain in Jesus. Trust Him in the pruning. Stay connected to Him in every season. Live in His love through obedience. Because apart from Him, we can do nothing—but when we remain in Him, our lives will bear lasting fruit.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for choosing me and for loving me. Help me to remain in You in every season. Teach me to trust You even when You are pruning my life, and help me stay connected to You in all I do. Give me the strength to walk in obedience and to live in Your love, so that my life may bear fruit that lasts. Amen.
