Daily Reflection: Standing in Truth and Trusting His Will

Scripture Focus: John 18

In Gospel of John 18, we see that everything happening to Jesus Christ is not random. In John 18:8–9, it says, “This happened so that the words He had spoken would be fulfilled.” This reminds us of something powerful: Jesus always fulfills His words. Nothing is outside of His control. Even in moments that look chaotic or painful, God is still accomplishing His purpose.

We see this again in John 18:32, where it says that these events took place to fulfill what Jesus had said about the kind of death He was going to die. Every detail, every person involved, every moment—all of it was aligning to fulfill His word. What seemed like a tragic situation was actually part of God’s plan being carried out.

In the middle of this, we see a contrast in how to respond. In John 18:11, Jesus tells Peter, “Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?” Peter reacts by fighting, using the wrong weapon, trying to take control of the situation. But Jesus responds with surrender. He understands the Father’s will and chooses to walk in it.

How often do we respond like Peter? Trying to fight battles in our own strength, using the wrong weapons, reacting out of fear or emotion. But Jesus shows us another way—a life of trust and surrender. He was able to respond this way because He had been praying. He had already surrendered in prayer, and through that, He received the strength to walk through what was ahead.

Then in John 18:37, Jesus declares, “The reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” This brings everything together. Jesus is not only walking in obedience—He is standing in truth. His life, His actions, and His surrender all point to truth.

So the message is this: God’s word will always be fulfilled, even when we do not fully understand what is happening. Our role is not to control everything, but to trust Him, to lay down our “swords,” and to walk in surrender. And as we do, we are called to stand on the side of truth, listening to Jesus and following His voice.

Even in difficult moments, we can trust that God is at work, fulfilling His purpose, and leading us in truth.

Prayer:
Lord, help me to trust You even when I do not understand what is happening. Teach me to lay down my own ways of fighting and to surrender to Your will. Strengthen me through prayer so that I can walk in obedience like Jesus did. Help me to stand in Your truth and to listen to Your voice in every situation. Amen.
